Medimetrix works with
the top tier pharmaceutical companies in the country and provides a rare
combination of business and public policy expertise. We provide primary
and secondary research and analysis to assess current and emerging
trends in local, regional and national markets and the potential impact
of those trends on our clients and their customers. We identify and
assess both federal and state policies and their impact on our clients
and their customers. We have developed longitudinal studies and
databases to track and trend financial, marketing and other performance
data.
Our
recent projects include:
Offset Analysis
Highlighting the Value of Pharmaceuticals
Our cutting-edge work focused on the added value of pharmaceutical
utilization in terms of reducing the incidence of hospital utilization.
Rather than focus on the pharmacoeconomics of a specific drug and/or
disease condition at the micro level, our assessments highlighted the
macro effect of pharmaceuticals on the demand for inpatient care. Our
comprehensive approach includes subset analyses targeting the U.S.
Medicare and commercial populations while incorporating an international
assessment of the global pharmaceutical industry.
Product Positioning Study for a New Anti-Depressant
Our work for a major pharmaceutical manufacturer involved assessing
the managed care market place receptivity for a new anti-depressant
targeted for introduction in 2004 - 05. This new anti-depressant works
by a novel mechanism with fewer side effects, but would be introduced in
a generic dominated market. The goal of the engagement was to understand
these key issues both to identify product attributes most important for
preferential formulary placement and to shape Phase IV clinical trials
accordingly.
Primary and
secondary competitive intelligence-gathering on primary care and
specialty physician prescribing habits and practice support needs in
specific therapeutic areas
We provided a quantitative assessment of drug use and promotional spending
data by disease group, physician specialty and patient gender; and
development of client recommendations for local market positioning
vis-ą-vis specific therapeutic areas.
Consumer focus
groups among selected populations (e.g., seniors, Medicaid recipients)
to ascertain their healthcare and pharmacy coverage and service
information needs and preferred media for receiving and reviewing such
information
We provided recommendations to the client regarding the content, format
and delivery of the consumer-focused information to the targeted
populations.
Assessment of
large employers' current needs and interests vis-ą-vis purchasing and
providing health insurance benefits to employees, their dependents and,
in some cases, retirees
We interviewed corporate benefit managers for large employers with a
national presence, and identified a number of opportunities for the
pharmaceutical company to augment its strategic relationships with large
employers and purchasing coalitions.
Development of
a unique longitudinal database containing comprehensive Medicare risk
plan information - including pharmacy benefits - by plan, county and
metropolitan statistical area (MSA)
We have been tracking data elements for every Medicare risk plan
operating in every U.S. market over the past five years: enrollment
trends; service area; AAPCC rates; market penetration; general benefit
information (including premium, coinsurance, and optional benefits);
pharmacy benefits and pharmacy utilization management techniques. We
have analyzed the data in our comprehensive database to provide clients
with market snapshots that identify all the Medicare HMO players;
describe the detailed prescription drug benefits and benefit management
techniques; and otherwise provide timely information and support to
local sales efforts. On a national level, we have provided clients with
insight into both regional and national trends in the Medicare risk
arena.
Development of
a wide variety of public policy and regulatory "white papers"
which provide insight into current and emerging policy issues impacting
our pharmaceutical company clients
Our work includes: State Pharmacy Assistance Programs for the Elderly;
Current Trends in Managed Long-Term Care; Current Trends in Managed
Behavioral Health Care; The Prospective Payment System for Nursing
Homes; and The Dually Eligible Population.
Preparation of
qualitative and quantitative overviews of local health care markets and
forecast of anticipated market trends
Our work focused on enabling the client to gain a better understanding
of market dynamics and key players who influence access to and
utilization of pharmaceuticals. We also used this research to assist the
client in developing strategies to more effectively market its products
and services.
